Finding Your Soul’s True Purpose

What is your soul purpose? Have you ever thought about that? I think about it all the time. It’s a thought that both fascinates me, and scares me. It fascinates me because I believe so deeply that we all all here to learn, experience, and grow our souls. That idea alone implies that we are more than this human body and mind that we incarnate in. It scares me because I worry that I am not doing it “right” or that I’m not trying hard enough.

Those fears aside, this I know deep down in the fibers of my soul…

Each and everyone of us is here for a purpose.

The journey is figuring out what that purpose is.

For some people it’s as clear as day. It’s as if they were born with an innate sense of what they came into this life to do. For most everyone else, it’s not as cut and dry. We spend our days/weeks/months going through the rigamarole of life, feeling restless and unsatisfied, like there is something missing. Thinking thoughts like “everything will be better when I do/have/am…xyz”.

This lack of clarity can feel frustrating and confusing at times. Especially if we see others around us doing so well in life.

In the quest for my own souls purpose, I’ve driven myself to the point of tears at times trying to figure out what I should be doing and what I was doing wrong. What I realized was that I was looking at life through other peoples lenses, not my own!

I would see people who seemed to have these beautiful lives, who were so happy in love with beautiful families, and had what seemed like everything. I put them on a pedestal thinking “one day, when I have what they have… I’ll be happy too”. And then I would make myself miserable by trying to live someone else’s dreams.

So what changed? Well, for starters, I stopped comparing my life to everyone else’s life. That alone was HUGE in my shift from being the poor woman who has nothing to the super woman who has everything. Everything that’s right for HER life, that is.

I also began a really simple practice of learning to trust myself. It sounds so easy, doesn’t it? I don’t know about you, but I have a pretty annoying voice inside that likes to question everything I do, say or think. Learning to turn that voice off has been transformational.

But the question remains, how do we figure out what our true soul purpose is?

Here are a few simple techniques to help you get closer to your answer.

1. Get quiet with in. Remember that voice that is constantly babbling inside your head? Tell it to shhhhhhh! By learning how to clear your mind and sit in stillness you’ll be better able to access the depths of your soul. Think of it this way, you need to get to a place of nothing-ness so that something can be born. It’s hard to hear the deepest truth of your soul if your mind is always chattering in the background. Try giving your mind something to do at first, like watching your breath. Feel it on the inhale, and on the exhale. When your mind starts to drift (and it most certainly will) gently watch those thoughts drift by as if they were clouds in the sky, and return to focusing on your breath.

2. Ask the questions. Once you’ve found a quite place inside, ask yourself the questions that you want to know. You may ask for guidance on what to do in a certain situation, or clarity on a certain issue. For me, I ask what is the highest vision for my life. Whatever you ask, just be sure to do so from a clear and quite space.

3. Listen for the answers. Finally, listen and feel for the answers. I say listen and feel because sometimes things come to you in a feeling. You may feel love. Translation…share love. And what exactly are you listening for? Your own voice telling you what you already know. For the longest time, I struggled with the listening part. I was expecting to hear some outside voice tell me the answers. But that’s the definition of crazy. What you’re listening for is a deep knowing voice, your voice, offering you guidance and insight to what your soul already knows. Listen. And try not to second guess or judge.

These techniques have helped me realize my true soul’s purpose, and I hope they help you realize yours, too.

Love, Meghan
