Tips for A Successful Slow Season

Hello, friends!

We don’t know about you guys, but the slow season is on its way back here at MDP and dang, does it feel good to breathe after the holidays! We’re taking this time to really elevate our brand and get everything ready for the craziness that is to come because trust me, it comes sooner than you think!

Don’t get me wrong, we’re also taking this time to rest and fill our cup up again. But we’re also busy amping up our business and taking care of all the things we can’t get to when it gets busy. Because in all reality, who wants to sit around twiddling their thumbs?

Not us! And I’m guessing not you either! So we’ve created a list of our go-to tasks for making the most out of the slow season.

Keep Shooting

I know I know, it’s slowing down and your thinking…SAWEET! I have time now to do all the things, netflix and chill anyone? I totally get it! I’m there with ya sister! But if there is one thing I have learned, it’s to never stop shooting even when things slow down. Now is the time to create work for yourself, the kind of work you WANT to do. The kind of work that inspires the heck out of you. Reach out to other creatives and collaborate, style a shoot yourself, send out a model call to shoot something you have been DYING to shoot but haven’t had the opportunity. Take this time to create what you want to create. Not only does this keep your creative mind going, it helps create content for you to share when things get slow. Come busy season, you’ll be so happy you did!

Update You Marketing Materials

Use this time to do all the things you don’t have time to do when busy season is in full swing. Starting with updating your marketing materials. Swap old photos out with new ones and refine your content. Take a second look at your pricing, should you implement that increase for the next year? How does your design look? Should you make some changes to elevate your brand? YES. Yes yes and yes.

Elevate Your Client Experience

How was your client experience this year? Could you do better? Where and what could you to better? Now is the time to determine these things and come up with new ways to better your client experience from start to finish. Want to learn more about client experience? We may have a blog post for thats coming very shortly with all the goods.

Elevate Your Workflows

Are you working as effectively and efficiently as you can? Is there room for improvement? Take some time to research and test out new ways to streamline your workflow. This will make all the difference in the world come busy season!

Blog Your Sessions From The Previous Year

Take this time to show your work off!! Spend a few days just blogging the crap out of the last year. Make sure you are giving potential clients a real deep look into work, and make sure you are showing them the best of the best. Slow season is the time new potential clients are looking to book come busy season, so take this time to show them your most recent, incredible work! You can also get a head start for when busy season comes by planning ahead of time and having things that are ready to go. I promise, you won’t regret it.

Educate Yourself

One of the BEST things you can for yourself is to invest in yourself. Whether it’s an online course, a workshop, mentor session, podcast, or book…whatever educating yourself looks like for you, do it. And do it some more. Personally, I find ways in my every day to continuously educate myself. Sometimes for me it’s a book, a meeting with a mentor over coffee, or even flying across the country to attend a workshop or convention that leaves me feeling inspired and ready to take on the busy season ahead. I can’t recommend education enough, I would not be where I am today had I not taken the time to truly invest and learn.

And there you have it! A solid list of to-dos that will make your slow season fly by. Spend this time wisely and you’ll be set up for success come the busy season!
